Grilling steak seems simple enough, but if you are new to the process, there are a lot of small details that can make an enormous difference in your cooking.
Heat grill to high. Pat steak dry with paper towels and rub the entire surface with oil.
Season both sides of steak evenly with one teaspoon salt and pepper.
Grill steak until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 115 degrees F for rare, 4 to 8 minutes per side, or 120 degrees F for medium-rare, 5 to 10 minutes per side.
Transfer steak to a cutting board and let rest for 10 minutes.
Cut steak against the grain into thin slices and serve.
