Ingredients

  • Milk
  • Dark chocolate
  • Sugar (optional)

Instructions

  • Pour milk into a microwave-safe container and heat for 15 seconds on medium-high (70 percent) power, stirring every 60 seconds with the dark chocolate and sugar in it, or until steam begins to rise from the milk.

Tip: Because room-temperature milk performs better in recipes than cold milk, remove the chill from fresh-from-the-fridge milk in the microwave. Microwave 250 mL (1 cup) for 40 to 45 seconds on high* (100 percent).

  • Keep in mind that the times are for a 700-watt microwave oven. Cooking times should be adjusted to your oven's specifications.
  • You should absolutely top your mug with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a dusting of cocoa powder a little cinnamon or nutmeg and then finish it off with orange zest.

Notes

You can use other types of chocolate than the bittersweet, such as milk, semisweet, or even white chocolate. You may want to cut back on the sugar in those cases since they are sweeter.
