Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy in a large bowl.
Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips.
Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll into a log about 2 inches in diameter.
Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 3 days).
Cut dough into 1/2-inch slices and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake cookies until they are golden brown, about 15 minutes.
Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes; transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
