How do you know when boiled eggs are done? 4 Easy ways!
There’s no rocket science behind it of course you can find out when your eggs are boiled. Finding out if your eggs are boiled is easy, the hardest part is to cook it perfectly. Here are 4 different ways you can determine if the eggs are boiled or not.
Take the eggs and spin them on a flat surface and carefully which egg spins the one which is spinning is the one that is cooked. Confused? Let me clear the raw egg wouldn’t spin easily because it has liquid in it will wobble and will spin comparatively slower than the cooked egg. This is the simplest way to find out if your egg is boiled or not.
This method is not so common and you might have never heard about it. It is the light testing method, it is simple but not common. In this method you just your egg and place it in front of a source of light, let it be torch, bulb or maybe sunlight for instance.
If the egg is uncooked you can see the yolk in it as it is not solid light is allowed to pass through it. But if the egg is cooked it will have solid center light that won’t be able to pass through it. And that’s how you distinguish if your egg is boiled or not.
You can use a thermometer to check if the egg is cooked or not, just take out the eggs place them on a plate or paper towel, and use a quick read thermometer to check if its temperature is more than 160F it’s cooked. Although this is the least favorite for everyone. But still, it works every time.
The last and the final method, well this is actually kind of final method it’s the “crack the shell” open method. That’s the last thing you can do to find out if the egg is cooked properly or not but yeah if it does not cook yet then what? Of course, it’s wasted or you can just eat it raw if you feel like it.
Is it possible to tell if an egg is boiled without breaking it?
Sure you can tell that, but it is not that easy because all the eggs look the same you can’t really tell which one’s cooked or which one’s raw just by looking at it for that you will have to practice that art and it can take anywhere between 20 to 30 years, just kidding!
There are some easy peasy steps that can help you determine whether the eggs are boiled or not and you can tell that even without breaking them.
Here are some simple tips which will help you out to find if the egg is boiled or not and that too without breaking them.
If you are boiling a dozen eggs you don’t have to take out each and every egg and test it you can just take one egg out of boiling water and test it. But before testing make sure you place it under cold water as they are extremely hot you don’t want yourself to get burned and then get blisters.
1) Put the egg in cold water
Take the egg out of hot boiling water place it under cool water for a bit so it gets a little cooled down now place that egg on the countertop and then spin it, yeah you heard it right just spin it now stop it with your fingers and then leave it if spin again then this means it’s still raw and if it comes to a halt then your egg is cooked perfectly.
2) The bubble test
There is another fun way to check your eggs without breaking them and that is the bubble test method.
By the name, it may sound like some mumbo jumbo scientific stuff but guess what it’s the simplest idea, you just take your boiled eggs and put them in a pan and some water over it to make sure they are dipped in it well. Now observe any bubbles if you see the bubble this means your eggs aren’t cooked well but if there are no bubbles this means your eggs are cooked perfectly.
Do hard boiled eggs float when they are done?
Eggs do float in water but there are some reasons behind it if you are boiling your eggs and they start floating this could mean that your water is salty because eggs do float in salty water but there is another side of the story too. Eggs even float if they are bad or rotten I would say. A hard-boiled egg won’t float because of its density.
Tips and tricks
The hardest part after all this is peeling the eggs but don’t worry I’ll make this one easier too. The fresh eggs give a hard time in peeling them.
So it is better to keep your eggs in the fridge for 7 days and then boil them it would be a lot easier to peel them. Or you can add some soda bicarb in water when you boil the eggs it will increase the PH level water and peeling eggs won’t be a tough task anymore.
