How Long to Cook Asparagus at 400 Degrees? Recipe!

Do you know how long does it take to cook asparagus at 400 degrees in oven? I will show you the best recipe!

Asparagus is known as the “crown of spring”. Of fact, they are now accessible all year in any grocery shop, but they are naturally the fruits of spring, often available from February through June or July.

The early white asparagus is naturally tender and slightly unripe, while the vibrant green asparagus is crisp and has woody bits that should be snapped off before cooking. There’s also a startling purple one that turns green when cooked.

There are several ways to cook or incorporate them into recipes, ranging from pancakes to salads, or simply eating them on the side of some meat, but they can even be a gourmet entrée with a slice of Iberico or Serrano. It goes particularly well with semi-dry white wine. Grilling, sautéing, roasting, air frying, blanching, or steaming are all alternatives.

The best asparagus cooking time and temperature

Asparagus cooking time

Asparagus is known to have a slightly bitter flavor. There are two typical techniques for eliminating this flavor as much as possible. The first is blanching, but the ultimate method is roasting them in the oven.

The preparation of white or green asparagus differs somewhat. Snap the woody ends of the white ones before cooking them, and always peel the bottoms using a vegetable peeler. It’s an essential part since they’re bitter and fibrous, which alters the flavor and cooking time significantly.

Roasting asparagus in the oven takes around 12-15 minutes at 400°F, uncovered, with the oven fan on.

If you prefer to try the other method, blanching, prepare a bowl with water and plenty of ice. Immerse the asparagus in extremely salty, boiling hot water for 2 minutes before tossing them into the ice.

After that, place them in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

The excessively salty water helps them keep their green color and gives an excellent flavor without making the asparagus itself salty. The freezing water quickly stops the cooking, leaving them somewhat ripe.

Can I cook asparagus in oven at 400 degrees?

Asparagus

400°F is the perfect roasting temperature for asparagus in the oven, hence the answer is a big yes!

Always cook them uncovered, with the oven fan turned on, to cook them evenly. If you’re wondering how to prepare your white or green spring sticks, remember that the white ones have much more fiber and tend to be bitter, so blanching them is not the best idea.

You should always roast or grill your white asparagus for the best taste. As for the green ones, it’s up to you, blanching is perfectly fine for them as well. But the oven method takes away most of the bitterness.

Adding some butter, spices, olive oil, cheese, vinegar or sauces, can make them taste amazing, baked in the oven.

Asparagus should not be cooked for too long since it loses its freshness and texture, but it should bend slightly when lifted with a fork when done. When cooked at 400°F, it takes 12-15 minutes to be ready for serving, depending on how many you cook.

Grilling takes 8-10 minutes, while blanching takes no more than 2-3 minutes.

It’s difficult to keep them fresh since they require a lot of moisture. You may store them in the fridge by covering their ends with a moist paper towel.

It should be stored in a container or a plastic bag; it requires air circulation, so don’t put a lid on it or shut the bag and it may normally be kept fresh for up to four days before being cooked. You might also try submerging it in water.

Fig and Parmesan Asparagus in oven recipe at 400º F

This fig and parmesan asparagus looks like a real delicacy, and let me tell you, it is! My favorite is to serve this as an entrée, with a slice of amazing ham. The fig gives an exotic sweetness, caramelizing the asparagus tenderly, while the balsamic vinegar adds some acidity.

Parmesan is one of the most heavenly pairings with asparagus, especially with green ones. It is also better to use white pepper with them because it doesn’t overpower the other flavors.

Ingredients

  • 20 Green asparagus
  • 5 tbsp Grated mature parmesan
  • 1 Fig or 3 dried ones
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic vinegar
  • A pinch of fine salt
  • A pinch of white pepper

Instructions

  • Check for any wooden parts on the asparagus and peel them off with a vegetable peeler, or you can simply cut them off.
  • When storing green asparagus, sometimes it starts to become white on the bottom.
  • Cut those parts off before you cook them. Preheat your oven to 400°F with the oven fan turned on.
  • Get a baking sheet and put baking paper on it.
  • We are going to make a glaze. In a kitchen shredder, cut the fig with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, and a tbsp of water. If you are using dried figs, pour hot water over them for 5 minutes, and then proceed with the shredder.
  • When the oven is preheated, Coat them with your glaze gracefully, and hint them with the mature parmesan.
  • Roast them in the preheated oven for 13 minutes, giving them a good shake midway.
  • It’s best to have them fresh and hot, also if you have some of the glaze left, you can serve it with the side dish next to the asparagus.

The best side dishes for this recipe

It’s difficult to pick the greatest asparagus side dishes because there are so many options. They go well with practically anything. Red meats, fish, pancakes for breakfast, ripe and fresh salads, hams, cheese platters, and turkey.

They can be served with chicken on the side, although they go better with red meat or fish than poultry.

Asparagus pairs well with Parmesan, garlic, and olive oil, but you may get creative with recipes. Just be sure to include something sweet, acidic, savory, and umami.

They may be made with soy sauce and black or white sesame seeds, or simply sprinkled with lemon zest and sea salt for a rustic touch. Green asparagus is more appealing to my gourmet palate, but the white ones can be cooked perfectly as well.

Conclusion

Either you sautée, grill, pan-fry, air fry, oven bake, or blanch them, make sure to store the asparagus properly, trim the ends and any wooden parts, and properly cook them.

Oven roasting and blanching are the best methods to take away the usual bitterness and infuse with other flavors.

Lemon, parmesan, garlic, olive oil, and black pepper are among the most popular flavor pairings with it. Also, asparagus can be a great, mild side dish to serve with some more popping-flavors meats and fish.
