  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup White sugar
  • 1 Egg (beaten lightly with a fork)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (OR 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest)
  • 1/4 cup Milk

Instructions
 

  • First, you have the preheat the oven to 525 F. and place a rack in it at the center.
  • Now, add Crisco shortening while at 9 cast skillet bottom.
  • The next step is to add flour and salt to the bowl and make a hole in the middle of the flour.
  • Pour buttermilk in the hole you made and again add Crisco shortening. 
  • Now, sequence all the ingredients using one hand and make sure there are no lumps left. Make a dough out of the ingredients. 
  • Now, clean your hands and dry them properly. 

Sprinkle some flour on the surface where you will roll the dough and also on your hands. 

  • Make the dough not sticky, if it is, add a little amount of flour while still kneading it gently. 
  • Take out a ball of dough which should be one inch thick and cut it with the biscuit cutter and then rub flour on it. 
  • Place all the biscuits you have made in the skillet from starting to the end and make sure they touch each other. 
  • After cutting the biscuits once knead all the left-out dough and cut out the cookies again. But do not repeat the process thrice. 
  • If you are still left with dough, make yourself a big biscuit in another pan or you can also save it for anything else. 
  • Set the pan on the middle rack and reduce the heat to 500 degrees F
  • Bake your biscuit on the rack for about 12 mins till you see the upper part turning golden and the insides becoming dry. 
  • The last step is to use melted butter for brushing the biscuit and voila!
