Longhorn Steakhouse Crispy Brussel Sprouts Recipe

Longhorn Steakhouse Crispy Brussel Sprouts Recipe

Crispy Brussel Sprouts are one of the most ordered items at Longhorn Steakhouse. The secret ingredient to getting them crispy is double frying so they are both cooked and browned. Make sure you pat dry the Brussel sprouts before placing them in hot oil to ensure a crispy exterior.

Also, continue to fry them until they are a dark golden brown. Longhorn Steakhouse uses a special blend of Aromatic Spices to create a unique flavor.

So I based this recipe off of that and made a few adjustments (as well as made the rub myself – which is where you might find the most room for improvement with this recipe).

Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts
  • Salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Butter
  • Calabria chili rub
  • Sea salt
  • Honey
  • Sugar

Instructions

  • First of all, you need to preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Now, remove the outer leaves of brussel sprouts and wash them thoroughly in water.
  • Use a knife or any other sharp object to cut an "X" into the stem end of each sprout. This will let steam escape while cooking.
  • Arrange the brussel sprouts into a baking tray and pour 2 tablespoons of oil over it. Now, use your hands to mix things up so that all sprouts are coated in oil. More the oil, the more crispy the sprouts.
  • Roast them for twenty minutes or until they start to turn brown.
  • Turn the heat up to 400ºF and roast for another ten minutes.
  • Take them out of the oven, transfer them into a bowl and toss with salt, sugar, and honey (all three in equal quantities).

Should I blanch the brussels before starting the recipe?

Yes, you should blanch the brussels sprouts. Blanching is a process by which you cook your vegetables in boiling water for a short period of time (usually 2-3 minutes), then immediately transfer to an ice bath (a mixture of cold water and ice) before proceeding with the other steps in cooking.

It’s important not to overcook your veggies when blanching, as you still want them to have a nice bite and texture at the end of cooking.

How do roast brussel sprouts look?

Roasted brussels sprouts should be dark green and slightly crispy on the outside with a soft interior. They are excellent when paired with a variety of different flavors, but my favorite is fresh rosemary.

How should you serve Brussel sprout?

We ate them with the grilled salmon, but this dish would go well with other meats or chicken as well. They would also be a great side dish to bring to a holiday dinner or potluck.

  • Cook your Brussels sprouts at 420 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes to get them started, then crank the heat up to 450 or 475 and cook for another 10-15 minutes.

Mistakes to avos during the recipe:

What are the mistakes to avoid while cooking Longhorn Steakhouse Crispy Brussel Sprout Recipe? Let’s see:

  • Do not boil the sprouts as they will lose their crispiness.
  • Make sure that you do not overcook your sprouts or else they will be very soggy and soft!
  • The only way to save overcooked brussels sprouts is by draining them and adding a lot of flavor, such as cheese and bacon!
  • Don’t cook them for too long as they will burn.
  • Also, make sure you do not stir the sprouts too much as this also risks burning the outside layer of the sprouts. This is a great way to eat healthy and enjoy our favorite vegetables at the same time.
  • Add the sprouts in batches if you like them less cooked.
  • Blanching Brussels sprouts is probably the best way to get them crispy without overcooking them!
